Using MSP and self-manage VMS Solutions to harmonise the supply chain

Mitie first provided facilities management services back in 1987. Today they provide FM, consultancy, project management, and a range of specialist services which connect people with innovation and technology. They work in partnership with organisations to deliver long-term value, offering services ranging from real estate and energy consultancy, compliance, risk assessment, and security systems to cleaning, catering, and environmental services. Mitie manage some of the nation’s most recognised landmarks and have contracts with the likes of Lloyds, Primark, Bayer, and Amazon.

Challenge

  • The client delivers in-contracts across the whole of the UK
  • Suppliers were charging between 12 and 22% mark-up
  • Lack of consistency across the recruitment processes
  • No ability to review whole group temporary worker data

Priorities

As part of the managed service approach, Retinue was committed to working in partnership with Mitie to overcome the specific challenges faced within this category. In relation to people shortages, Retinue worked closely with Mitie to build regional hubs of local suppliers linked to the identified hot spot locations. In order to reduce off-contract spend Retinue needed to:

  • Harmonise all terms and conditions within the current supply chain
  • Gain visibility of all current costs associated with temporary recruitment
  • Improve the overall quality of candidates presented for temporary agency recruitment
  • Identify potential efficiencies in processes as well as a number of cost savings

Solution

Mitie was offered a two process solution as Retinue recognised that one model did not fit this client.

The first solution was the self-manage option supported by Retinue's proprietary technology platform, this enabled the hiring managers to have the autonomy to choose a contracted supplier and engage directly, maintaining a relationship with their chosen agency whilst effectively logging all bookings onto one online portal.

The second solution was an MSP. This option suited parts of the business which were looking to receive an end-to-end booking solution fully managed by Retinue, utilising the nGAGE group of companies to drive down recruitment costs to Mitie.
